Permits and inspections
Additions need a full building permit, often with engineered drawings, and inspections at footing, framing, mechanical and final. We prepare the drawings and manage the review.
St. Charles County's incorporated cities each run their own building division; unincorporated areas go through the county. We know all of them.

How much does a home addition cost?
It depends on size, foundation, roof tie-in and what goes inside it. We quote in writing after a consultation and in-house drawings.
Do you do the drawings?
Yes, in-house. When engineering stamps are required we coordinate them.
How long does an addition take?
A single-room addition typically runs eight to twelve weeks on site after permits; larger projects longer. Permit review time varies by municipality.
Can you add a second story?
Often, yes. It depends on the existing foundation and framing, which we assess first.
Will the addition match my house?
That is the point of drawing it in-house: rooflines, siding, windows and trim are matched before the permit goes in.
Do I need a bigger electrical panel?
Usually. Additions change the service calculation; First Choice Electric handles it as part of the job.
Do you build detached garages and workshops?
Yes. Detached buildings are a regular part of our work on larger lots.
