Permits and inspections
Decks attached to the house need a building permit with footing and final inspections in St. Charles County and most municipalities. We pull it and schedule both.
St. Charles County's incorporated cities each run their own building division; unincorporated areas go through the county. We know all of them.

Straight answers, the same ones we give on the walkthrough.
How much does a new deck cost?
It depends on size, height, cedar versus composite, railing type and whether it has a roof or stairs. We quote in writing after a free site visit.
Cedar or composite?
Cedar costs less up front and needs sealing every couple of years; composite costs more and needs washing. We price both.
Do decks need a permit?
In St. Charles County and most municipalities, yes. We pull it.
How long does a deck take to build?
A standard deck is one to two weeks on site; multi-level or covered designs run two to four.
Can you replace just the boards and keep the frame?
Only if the frame, ledger and footings pass inspection. Most original-build frames do not, and we tell you honestly.
Can you add a roof or screened room to my deck?
Yes. Covered decks and screened rooms are a regular part of our work; they need their own structural design and permit.
Do you install deck lighting and hot tub wiring?
Yes, through our electrical partner First Choice Electric, so it passes electrical inspection with the framing.
What railing options are there?
Wood, composite, aluminum and cable. Aluminum and cable keep the view; wood and composite match the house.
What customers say
What customers say about our decks work
From our Google Business Profile and Facebook page, shown as written.
Sean, from SC2 contracting just finished building my new deck. I couldn't be more pleased! Not only did Sean do a great job, but he made the project very pleasant by always communicating when he'd be at my house, if it was okay to work on weekends, and what was happening next. He clearly is a man of high integrity, taking pride in doing a good job and working hard every day to get the job done(even in the St Louis heat we had this summer).
I will definitely be in touch with him again to do other projects for me, and have no doubt I'll get the same wonderful results!!
My wife and I were in need of some deck stairs and Sean delivered well above our expectations. Battling through rain, ridiculously large rocks, and a slight slope, Sean and Brendan built a perfect set of stairs. Expert craftsmanship at all levels and complete professionals on the business side. SC2 is the premier choice for your home improvement needs.
Sean at SC2 replaced a two-tiered deck at an apartment building. The deck was very old and run down. The second tier is two stories above the ground.
He removed the old deck and ensured the new deck was done using the most structurally sound design. The new deck is very solid and will likely last a long time.
